Here’s how we built an immersive web reading experience for Tales of Wudan
Client Background
The Tales of Wudan are original stories written by Andrew Tate in the height of his fighting career.
These lessons detail the wisdom he absorbed through his trials as he trained under “Master Po”, his late father Emory Andrew Tate III.
The site is linked to Tate’s homepage, cobratate.com, which boasts millions of visitors every month.
Project Objectives
The original page for Tales of Wudan was difficult to read, there was no landing page, and the design choices were uninteresting.
Our aims were to:
Our Approach
The deadline set for the UI/UX mockups was within 48 hours of the request. We focused on using a simple strategy to tackle the key issues, comprising of:
1. Improving Navigation
We improved the poor navigation with:
- Landing page with scrollable stories
- Story previews
- Next/Previous Story Cards on all Story pages
2. Layout Optimization
Originally, on each story there were images to the left and right of the text. This fragmented the ‘flow’ of reading, requiring more scroll for a user to read.
We fixed this with:
- Images in the background
- Optimized text size and spacing, so the stories read naturally like a book
- Added bolds to dramatic points in the story
3. Visual Overhaul
Tales of Wudan did not originally have its own color scheme, it was pulled from the homepage.
We changed this with a fresh take on the color pallet, including bright colors to outline each story, and a signature red-to-yellow gradient for titles.
4. Responsive Design
We ensured that the redesigned Tales of Wudan site was fully responsive and optimized for different screen sizes and devices, to ensure a consistent and high quality experience.
